Best Podcasts to stay in touch with global developments
Living abroad has the considerable advantage of getting closer to a foreign economy and political landscape. However, it also might disconnect you a bit from your home turf. A while ago I discovered news podcasts to be the perfect medium for me to stay up to day with developments around the globe. Listening to the news while doing other things is not only convenient, but I also realized that I am much better informed about topics I would not buy a book or magazine about.
Here are my personal Top 5 news podcasts I follow on an almost daily basis. Some of them are more for a long drive on the weekend while others are just taking a couple of minutes – informing me about the top news before I had my first coffee of the day.
As a German living in the US, I am bit influenced by news media of these two countries. So I would love to know your favorite kind of podcast and why you like to listen to it. Please share your favorite podcasts in the comment section below and let me know if you like one of my favorites.
My top 5 news & politics podcasts
News podcast #1: The daily (US)
I honestly don’t know how they do it – but every morning they offer a more than up-to-date episode with excellent research and a neutral perspective (although you can hear that they are definitely democratic in times of Trump). I highly recommend this podcast to get some context on US topics.
NEWS PODCAST #2:The Financial Times (UK)
I swear I am not just listening to this podcast because I am missing the British accent 🙂 Although this is a definitive plus! It’s way shorter than the Daily and focuses more on Europe and India. Especially India is very interesting for me as German newspapers do not really cover this area.

NEWS PODCAST #3: Deutschlandfunk (Germany)
This podcast is only available in German and my go-to-source to stay in touch with local news. It was a gamechanger when I discovered this podcast at a time where the German political landscape was in turmoil, and I was starting to lose my connection to it. The Deutschlandfunk podcast has a great mix of topics and perfect interview partner!
NEWS PODCAST #4: Handelsblatt (Germany)
Another German podcast I love listening to as it is very short and covers not only the economic landscape of Germany but also the effects of Asia and US trade on Europe. Handelsblatt is my go-to podcast for my first coffee in the morning. I also love the mix of information with some philosophical views.
NEWS PODCAST #5: Goldman Sachs (United States)
I was never really interested in the finance industry but the moment I listened to one of these episodes I was amazed by the tone and the positive company culture Goldman Sachs seems to have. They do many in-house interviews with their experts for the respective markets, and I especially loved the recent episode about Germany and its current developments. Never have I heard a more comprehensive yet neutral summary of the current situation of Germany!
So I am curious, what type of news podcasts are you listening to? This medium is booming at the moment, and I love to see how I am way more informed than before – just because I can listen to them on my way to work or doing things at home. I especially liked listening to many episodes on our recent road-trip. Let me know if you are interested in my top 5 lifestyle podcasts.

Why career coaching is so essential in times of new work
As a coach, I have seen a visible increase in the need to explore different career options. While some clients are finally planning to tackle going back to work after a long break, other clients are seeking a shift in their current career feeling their skills and values are not matched with their current profession. During the pandemic the buzzword „The great resignation“ came up, illustrating the global need for creating a new work-life balance. In this article, I will highlight some interesting global facts around the topic of the great resignation and explore why coaching is such an essential tool for employees (and potential employees) to gain realignment with their careers.
A Different Approach to Everyday Life: A Return to One’s Own Values Abroad
Living abroad not only opens up a completely new view of the country and its people. The perception of worldwide cultural differences also does something to one’s own ideas. What is desirable? What belongs to the things that are absolutely necessary and what are things that are considered absolutely necessary in one culture and play no role at all elsewhere? This becomes very vivid if you make yourself aware of an everyday situation in a very concrete way. In this article, I look at the different designs of children’s rooms around the world and what this has to do with a return to our basic instincts.
Was ist erstrebenswert?
